The member representing Anambra East Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Obi Nweke has called on the federal government to devise a means of ensuring food security in Nigeria, as food inflation bites harder nationwide.

Hon. Nweke who was speaking to newsmen at his country home, Igbariam, Anambra East Local Government Area, said that the measure has become imperative due to the food inflation in the country at the moment, which has made basic food items unaffordable by most of the citizens.

The Lawmaker maintained that food inflation has brought an untold hardship to average Nigerians, thereby reducing their purchasing power among numerous other economic challenges.

According to Hon. Nweke who is a also legal practitioner, the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government must as a matter of urgent national importance, restrategize to save Nigerians from dying in hunger, ensure the safety of farmers especially those in northern Nigeria, where bandits and terrorists have made life unbearable for them.

Hon. Nweke further advised the federal government to redouble efforts to ensure that this year’s flood does not negatively affect farmers in the riverine areas in the country and as such, aggravating the food scarcity in Nigeria.

He commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration for making sure that food inflation in Anambra is the lowest in the southeast region, and one of the lowest in the country, urging him not to relent.

The Anambra lawmaker equally urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to synergize with the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to make sure that the predicted 2024 flood does not adversely affect any resident of Anambra, especially those in the flood prone local governments, including Anambra East.
