Anambra State Governor’s wife, Nonye Soludo, has hailed the adoption of the traditional Akwete fabric by Anambra State Union in the United Kingdom and Ireland as their new official uniform in support of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s campaign for homeland consciousness.

Mrs Soludo, who disclosed the development on her verified social media handles, said the association is the first diaspora Igbo union to embrace the call and has shown eagerness to lead from the front.

She noted that the strong show of faith and brotherhood in what the Anambra State Governor is championing will give the Akwete resurgence a big boost to penetrate global market and create a distinct perception of Ndi Igbo as an ethnic group with strong and unique cultural orientation.

She described the Akwete renaissance as a necessary foundation for the new Igbo cultural story and a remarkable way to appreciate the ingenuity of Akwete people who invested time, ancestral uniqueness and beautiful history in the traditional fabric.

Mrs Soludo also commended ASU – UK and Ireland for the true solidarity and for always living out its “Igwe bu ike” slogan, which is defined in the way it is building a progressive community that are proudly representing the true Anambra spirit.

She also urged other Igbo associations across the globe to adopt traditional Igbo fabrics as their official outfits, explaining that such step is essential in reawakening their consciousness to where they come from and what they represent, and also teach their children to value the uniqueness of their origin and culture.
