Eighteen Deacons were recently made priests by Bishop on the Niger, Right Reverend Owen Nwokolo.

 

The Priests who were presented to the Bishop by Archdeacons in the Diocese before their ordination took various oaths and were examined by the Bishop.

Bishop Nwokolo during the ceremony which took place at All Saint Cathedral Onitsha, presented the Holy Bible to them as sign of authority, charging them to be faithful in preaching the world of God undiluted.

 

Bishop Nwokolo also used the forum to speak about the one hundred and sixtieth anniversary of the First black Bishop in the world, Bishop Ajayi Crowther a Yoruba Parentage but anchored his ministry in Igbo land, thus demonstrating that the gospel of Jesus Christ has no boundaries.

Some of the newly ordained priests -Reverends Benjamin Maduekwe and Chekwubechukwu Anyadiufu, expressed gratitude to God for the journey so far, assuring their commitment to the Anglican faithful of the Diocese.

 

Meanwhile, the Diocese on the Niger and Old Boys Association of Dennis Memorial Grammar School, DMGS Onitsha have commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for setting up a panel of inquiry into the Odu Igbo, Ochanja and DMGS Centenary building collapse.

The Diocese and DMGS old boys who spoke through their solicitor and Chancellor of the Diocese, Sir Nnamdi Ibegbu, noted that the move will help to ensure utmost professionalism in building construction across the State.

The Deputy Chancellor of the Diocese, Sir Ben Uzuegbu, SAN, called for a scientific approach to be adopted in the determination of the remote cause of the collapse rather than resorting to mere speculations.
