Youths of the Nnobi community in Idemili South Local Government Area have appealed to the Anambra State Government to intervene in the leadership Tussle that is now dividing the community.

The youths numbering over sixty made their appeal when they held a peaceful demonstration at the Government House, Awka to register their grievances over the tussle in the community.

The youths carried placards with inscriptions such as “Nnobi peace committee is a fraud”, “President General and his Cronies should not sell Nnobi cheap to anyone or persons”, “State government should investigate Nnobi PG, among others”.

Speaking during the demonstration, the leader of the group, Mr Emeka Ezeh frowned at the leadership of the town and accused it of dividing the peace-loving people of Nnobi

Mr Ezeh expressed dismay at the operation of the town union who has continuously undermined and humiliated the peace committee in the town, which he said points to the fact that they are against the peace and progress of the community and Anambra in general and appealed to the state government to expedite actions in arresting all disputes in the community before it results to a blood shade.

Contributing, some of the youths, Messrs Christian Uzuegbunam and Chibuzo Okonkwo expressed bitterness at the actions of their community stakeholders and wondered how only one individual will succeed in sowing the seed of discord in the community.

They recalled the different peace initiatives instituted in the town but were thwarted by the same set of people and called on government to look into the tenure of the Chairmen of the two zones in the community, saying that they have overstayed their tenure and are part of the structure that has kept the town in captivity and darkness.

Responding, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne who spoke through the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, Mr. Henry Nwasike assured the youths of the state government’s commitment to tackling all issues that hinder development and well-being of the people and assured them of transparent process.
