The women of the Anglican Diocese of Awka say that the current rate of domestic abuses and divorces in the society can be reduced and addressed by better parenting.

This was one of their major conclusions at the end of the 2024 Awka Diocesan Women’s Conference which held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area.

Rising from the conference with a nineteen-point communique signed by the Leader of the Communique Committee, Justice Chisolum Okafor and the President of the Conference and President of the Women’s Ministry, Province of the Niger and Diocese of Awka, Dr Martha Ibezim, the women who expressed deep worries that cases of abuse and divorce are rapidly increasing in today’s society, called on parents to consciously empower their children with good manners, life skills and patience needed to curb abuse and ensure lasting and enjoyable marriages.

The women also called on the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to proffer lasting solutions over the economic woes facing the country and promote farming activities in the country and ensure adequate security to farmers as a way to address food insecurity.

The Anglican women expressed deep dissatisfaction with the political class in Nigeria for showing insensitivity towards the plight of the poor masses and condemned their actions of spending taxpayers’ money to fund their frivolous lifestyles at a time extreme hunger is ravaging the entire country.

While commending Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the visible transformation of Anambra state, they pleaded with him to stamp his feet on ground against the insecurity situation in some parts of the state with rising cases of kidnappings and incessant killings as a way of restoring public and investors’ confidence in the state.

They reminded women of the need to key into the healthy living campaign of the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo by ensuring that they adopt healthy lifestyles and safe farming practices especially organic farming.

The conference also praised the Archbishop, Province of the Niger and Bishop, Diocese of Awka, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim and his wife, Martha, for the commendable milestones the diocese has achieved in the education sector and the empowerment of women and prayed to God to continue to bless them.
