The 2024 Umunri cultural fiesta which organised by Organiru Umunri has ended at Saint Michael and All Angels’ Church Hall, Nawfia, Njikoka Local Government Area.

 

It was a moment of joy for Umunri and their guests as cultural dance groups from the communities that constitute Umunri clan namely, Nri, Enugwu-Ukwu, Nawfia and Enugwu-Agidi entertained them with scintillating performances

Addressing the gathering, the Chairman of Organiru Umunri, Chief Christian Ezenwaka explained that the organisation is a socio-political and cultural organisation formed to achieve unity and collective celebration of the rich cultural heritage, history, brotherhood and the many divine endowments of Umunri people

 

He further said that Umunri cultural fiesta is an annual event aimed at promoting their rich cultural heritage and education of the pupils and students schooling within Umunri clan.

Speaking on the theme of the celebration “Umunri, progenitors of Igbo history and culture”, the keynote speaker, Chief Ifeanyi Ndubuisi disclosed that all academic studies and archaeological findings in Igboukwu proved beyond reasonable doubt that Umunri are the ancestors of Igbo history and culture and maintained that Umunri attained the position by the tremendous impact of their activities, influence and connections on other people of Igboland.

On his part, the Senator representing Anambra Central at the senate, Chief Victor Umeh noted that cultural celebration is very important as it will save Igbo culture and tradition from extinction and involving students in the annual cultural fiesta will keep generations yet unborn connected to the culture of their people.

 

The member representing Njikoka One Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Chidi Ibemeka commended Organiru Umunri for being in the vanguard of fostering the unity, progress and development of Umunri and assured of his continuous support to them.

The programme saw students of Comprehensive Science and Technical College, Nawfia emerged winners of the debate competition between them and students of Okutalukwe Secondary School, Enugwu-Ukwu for secondary category, while Christ the King Primary School, Nri won the grand finale of Igbo quiz competition between the school and Herbert Nkwocha Primary School, Enugwu-Ukwu, even as presentation of prizes to the winners featured at the event.
