Eziowelle community in Idemili North Council Area over the weekend, elected Dr Julian Obiora as the President General of Eziowelle Improvement Union.

 

The election which also produced the new executive of the union was conducted using open ballot system with delegates attending from the branches of the union at home and in the diaspora.

It was witnessed by delegations from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU and Security agencies.

 

The office of the President General was zoned to Ubulu village, Eziowelle as according to the community, the village had not produced a President General before in the community.

Thus, Ubulu village therefore presented Dr Obiora and Mr Izuchukwu Akuche to the community for voting.

 

At the end, Dr Obiora polled one hundred and five votes to win the election against Mr Akuche’s thirty-eight votes.

Dr Obiora and his team will pilot the affairs of EIU for a tenure of four years.

 

The leader of the delegation from the Ministry of Local Governments, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr Ikechukwu Mgbike, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful, and transparent conduct of the exercise and asked the winners to know they have been elected to work for the community and that they will sacrifice and put in all they have for the success of the community.

Contributing, the leader of ASATU delegation, Mr Ebuka Onuorah asked Ndi Eziowelle to keep holding on to peace, unity and oneness even as he challenged the new President General, Dr Obiora to carry each and everyone along as a way to move the community forward.

 

Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dr Laz Okafor maintained that the day is historic and history will beckon on them to make Eziowelle better, asking all parties to come together to promote unity, oneness and progress so that they all can call Eziowelle their own.

Appreciating the community for finding him worthy for the position, Dr Obiora, said it was his desire to serve and that he will put his wealth of knowledge to work for Ndi Eziowelle, starting with reconciliation mission, infrastructural development, youths’ empowerment, and promoting the welfare of the women and children and the indigent.

The members of the executive committee elected alongside Dr Obiora, were Tochukwu Ide as Secretary, Emeka Anyaegbu as Financial Secretary and Chukwuka Okolo, Treasurer among other positions.
