The Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, has described the training and retraining of civil servants as a crucial tool for capacity building and sustainable workforce.
while speaking during a two-day training program for senior staff of the State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Udeze, represented by the Deputy Speaker, Right Honourable Chukwuma Okoye, noted that the training marks the first of its kind in the history of the state legislature, attributing it, to the initiative to his various reform programs.
The Speaker thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo for approving the training and urged the legislative staff to take it seriously to enhance their knowledge in civil service and overall productivity.
In his address, the Acting Clerk of the House, Mr. Okechukwu Nwobi, represented by his deputy, Barrister Cynthia Idemobi, expressed satisfaction with the massive turnout of participants, noting that the training will significantly boost productivity.
A resource person and former Clerk of the House, Chief Pius Udoh, who delivered a lecture on memo writing, emphasized its importance and encouraged the senior staff to improve their memo-writing skills through private study.
Chief Udoh maintained that a memo must be constructively written in simple language for easy understanding and called on civil servants to eschew truancy and other negative attitudes that are against the civil service rules.
Participants, including Mr. John Akabuogu, Mrs. Adaeze Ndubuisi, and the Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Mr. Chinedu Ughalor, thanked the organizers for the training and assured that they would apply the knowledge gained to enhance their work.
