In a bid to maintain a clean, green and livable environment, the Transition Committee Chairman of Anaocha Council Area, Comrade Rome Ibekwe has embarked on clean up of all the nooks and crannies of the council area.
During the exercise which is in line with the mission and vision of the present administration to ensure that Ndi Anambra live healthy, Comrade Ibekwe and his team cleared some illegal refuse dump sites in the area.
All the Councilors in the council area, members of the Red Cross, faithful of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA and some spirited individuals from the Local Government Area, participated in the sanitation exercise to remove refuse dumps, desilt drainages and cut grasses.
Speaking shortly after the exercise, Comrade Ibekwe said the cleanup exercise was important stressing that dirty environment does not depict what Ndi Anaocha are known for.
The Anaocha Boss maintained that they were serious in waste management and promotion of healthy living as they have created some areas where each town in Anaocha will be dumping their refuse calling on the Presidents General to be watchful and made it clear that henceforth, they will not tolerate indiscriminate dumping of refuse in Anaocha.
The All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA Chairman, Anaocha Council Area, Sir Anthony Ugorji, expressed dismay at individuals who dump refuse without bagging them properly, adding that there is need for people to embrace cleanliness by always keeping a tidy environment.
Sir Anthony encouraged Ndi Anaocha to key into Solution agenda by promoting healthy lifestyle while observing that Comrade Ibekwe has started on a good note and is expected to perform optimally.
On his part, the Councillor representing Agulu Ward Three in the Transition Committee, Mr Tochukwu Etoluo said the areas where refuse were dumped illegally and has been cleared will be barricaded to send a signal to residents of the area that those places are no longer a dump site.
He promised that they will ensure full compliance as they began with sensitization of the people living in the Local Government Area.
For the Councilor representing Aguluzigbo Ward, Mrs. Ngozi Asonibe, for Comrade Ibekwe to kick start with clean-up exercise, he has shown understanding to the importance of healthy living, an important campaign being promoted by the wife of the governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo.
She added that under their leadership, every nook and cranny of the council area will receive a fresh breathe and called on those who engage in the indiscriminate dumping of refuse to desist from the act and join hands with them to keep Anaocha clean.
