The Nigeria Union of Journalists, FCT Correspondents Chapel Football for friendship Tournament has ended with the Federal Road Safety Corps FC lifting the coveted trophy.
The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Football Team emerged victorious in the final match after defeating the Federal High Court football team with a lone goal in a nail-biting finish.
The tournament, which kicked off on July 11, 2024, featured twelve teams from various government agencies and professional bodies, including the Federal High Court, Nigeria Police Force, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigeria Bar Association and the Nigeria Sports Writers Association.
The final match, played at the Old Parade Ground Area eleven Football Field in Abuja, which was witnessed by a large crowd, dignitaries, and journalists also saw the NAWOJ FCT football team, defeating NUJ veterans in a novelty match.
In his remarks, the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Chris Isiguzo, emphasized the importance of such competitions in fostering good relationships among professional bodies and government agencies.
He commended the FCT Correspondents Chapel, for holding forth in encouraging cordial relationship between journalists and the agencies they interact with.
The Chairman, NUJ FCT Correspondents Chapel, Jide Oyekunle, congratulated the winners and commended all participating teams for their sportsmanship and dedication.
As the tournament comes to a close, participants and organizers alike expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage in the friendly competition and forge lasting connections.
The FRSC team was presented with a trophy and a cash prize, while the Federal High Court team and others received medals and certificate of participation.
