The Wife of the Anglican Bishop of Ogbaru Diocese, Dr. Uche Amah, has blamed the high rate of immorality in the society on poor parenting.
Speaking to newsmen at the Cathedral Church of St. James the Great, Atani, Dr. Amah regretted the negative consequences of immorality in the society and charged parents, especially mothers, to be alive to their responsibilities.
While describing parenting as a process of transferring quality character and sound morals to children by parents, Dr. Amah, who is the president of Mother’s Union, Women’s Guild, Girls Guild, and Young Wives Association in the Anglican Diocese of Ogbaru, condemned the inordinate quest for materialism among women, which she said is impeding their family roles of child nursing and upbringing.
Dr. Amah described as counterproductive the continuous delegation of family roles by women to the house helps and urged women to always have time for their children to ascertain whenever they are being influenced by negative peer pressure.
She noted that children, as the hope of both the church and larger society, should be properly guided to enable them to assert their roles positively, and regretted the gradual return to idolatry by youths and charged parents to always see child upbringing as a collective responsibility and called on public schools to make the teaching of moral instruction compulsory, as it is in faith-based institutions, to ensure the return of sound morals in the society.
Dr. Amah commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his series of interventions in key sectors of the economy, including health, education, agriculture, human capital development, road infrastructure, among others, which she noted are indications that the Governor is committed to improving the living standards of the people and used the opportunity to call on indigent parents to leverage the free basic education policy of the Anambra State government to send their children to school to enable them acquire basic, sound, and quality education.
She also urged the people to embrace agriculture to ensure food security and commended the wife of the Governor Mrs Nonye Soludo, for her enlightenments on the need for people to always eat organic food for a healthy living.
