Awka Capital Territory Development Authority is to commence the construction of inner roads within its jurisdiction with paving stones.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Mr. Ossy Onuko disclosed this during the inauguration of one hundred and thirty metre- street road in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area constructed by the agency with paving stone.
Inaugurating the road, the Anambra State Commissioner for Works, Engineer Ifeanyi Okoma represented by the Director of Highways in the Ministry, Engineer Noel Okoye said that the government of Professor Chukwuma Soludo is happy with the positive exploits of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, under Mr. Onuko, adding that the paving stone road lasts longer and it is durable as well.
Earlier, Mr. Onuko explained that the paving stone road initiative was conceptualized, designed and executed by the agency, adding that they want to use the Amansea road to experiment the use of the new initiative in subsequent inner road constructions in Awka Capital Territory.
He added that the road has a good drainage system with solar powered street lights pointing out that what they have done is in line with Governor Soludo’s agenda of building a smart mega city through uncommon innovations.
The Chaplain to Governor Soludo, Reverend Father Raphael Onyekwelu whose house is along the street appreciated Governor Soludo for developing the state simultaneously and commended Mr. Onuko and his team for doing quality jobs in Awka Capital Territory, praying God to bless them.
In their separate speeches, the member representing Njikoka Constituency Two in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr. Jude Akpua who is also the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, and his Awka North Constituency counterpart, Mr. Johnmark Ikwunne, eulogized Mr. Onuko for being creative in the discharge of his duties, describing the road as a paradigm shift from what people use to see in the State.
Others who spoke at the event, including the engineer that constructed the road, Mr. Vincent Ojukwu gave assurance that the road will last between fifteen and twenty years, and revealed that paving stone roads are durable, cost effective and easy to maintain.
The Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Prince Chinedu Okafor, his Njikoka counterpart, Barrister Chinedu Ononiba among others were present during the inauguration of the road.
