Governor Chukwuma Soludo has flagged off distribution of one million and forty thousand seedlings across the state.
Governor Soludo performed the ceremony in Onitsha.
The event marked the commencement of the distribution of seven hundred thousand palm seedlings, two hundred thousand ukwa seedlings, fifty thousand bitter kola and forty thousand paw-paw seedlings to the three hundred and twenty six political wards in the state through the kindred system.
According to the Governor, the distribution exerciser is a way of re-living the past, to drive sustainable environment, creating wealth and leaving nobody behind.
While stating that apart from empowering ndị Anambra on a sustainable basis, the initiative aims to engender a sustainable environment and lamented that Anambra is sadly loosing her land to erosion menace and land degradation.
The Governor explained that the goal is to distribute ten million economic trees and encouraged educational institutions to turn their environment to become green, by planting trees which he said will help the environment and ecology.
The Minister for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Mohammad Abubakar represented by the Director of the Ministry, Arthur Mbuba, praised the state government for the initiative and pledged to continue supporting and partnering Anambra State in all its agricultural programmes.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Foster Ihejiofor said that with the initiative, Governor Soludo’s administration has successfully laid out a strategic foundation for economic prosperity in the state.
Recall that between 2022 and 2023, Anambra State government has distributed one point one million combined palm and coconut seedlings to one hundred thousand households.
Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Deputy Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, members of Anambra State Executive council including the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Barrister Joachin Anaeto, Traditional Rulers, Presidents General including the National President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, Barrister Titus Akpudo, among others, attended the event.
