As part of efforts to ensure smooth conduct of local government elections in Anambra state a bill to amend the Anambra State Electoral Law 2024 has been passed by the Anambra State House of Assembly.
The bill scaled first, second, and third readings before its passage.
Leading debate on the bill, the Majority Leader and Member representing Ekwusigo Constituency, Sir Ikenna Ofodeme, emphasized that the amendment demonstrates the state’s and Assembly’s readiness to expedite the local government elections as demanded.
He highlighted that the amendment aims to address specific areas and ensure transparency and accountability during the elections.
Supporting the motion, members representing Ogbaru Constituency One, Mr. Noble Igwe, and his Anambra West Counterpart, Mr. Patrick Udoba, stated that the amendment is timely, given the need to conduct the election.
The Speaker, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze read out the bill, which was supported by the lawmakers through a voice vote.
