The Anambra State Police Command has paraded over thirteen kidnap suspects, recover some arms and ammunition as well as warn against any form of violent protest in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Inaghe Itam disclosed this while briefing newsmen at Nibo, Awka South Council Area.
Mr. Itam said that the command and other sister security agencies are not oblivious of the enormous task before them in ensuring the safety of the life and property of Ndi Anambra and other residents of the state, and assured that they will continue to do their best at all times.
Explaining the remarkable achievements recorded by the Command in the past two weeks, Mr. Itam promised Ndi Anambra and all those engaged in legitimate businesses in the State of their preparedness to sustain the tempo of their operations to restore peace to every nook and cranny of the State, and that they are winning the war against crimes and criminalities in the state.
He said that they have arrested messers Emeka Okolo of Ihiala, aged twenty-nine Uchenna John of Ebonyi State, aged twenty-one and Victor Iniukpong of Akwa Ibom State, aged thirty-one for armed robbery, kidnapping and car snatching and that the suspects are connected to the kidnap of one Abuchi Madueke o 13th July 2024, at Nimo where they shot dead one Clement Obodozie and snatched a Lexus 330 jeep.
The Commissioner noted that they were arrested while trying to demobilize the tracker on another victim they kidnapped on 15th July 2024, one Chukwujindu Obinna from St. Charles Catholic Church, 3-3 .
According to Mr. Itam, operatives from the command arrested one Nnatu Chicdozie of Enugu Ukwu, aged forty-one, Onyeka Okoye of Uruagu Mbaukwu, aged twenty-two and Ndubuisi Emmanuel aged 19 from Abate Ayamelum on 23rd July 2024, and that the suspects are members of a kidnapping syndicate and are connected with the kidnap in Odume, Obosi involving Architect Sunday Etimbuk and Goodness Friday on 21st July 2024.
Other arrests made according to the police Commissioner are that of Emeka Okotor, Chidubem Ejiofor both nineteen years, Chigwo Nwankwo aged twenty and Chijoka Onyibor eighteen years who are suspected cultists and armed robbers in Awka, Anambra, as a pump action gun was recovered in their possession as their operational weapon.
Also arrested are Chigbogu Favor of Ihiala, aged thirty-three years and one Mbanefo Udeze of Oraifite, aged thirty-six years who operate in Anambra and return to their hideouts in Asaba, Delta State, while Chigaemezu Okafor a.k.a. England of Mbano, aged twenty-six years and one Uchenna Nwaiwu aged twenty of Ngor Okpala both in Imo state were arrested at various locations in the state and their operational weapons such as four pump action guns and one double barrel gun were recovered, among numerous others.
Mr. Ita advised bloggers and online writers to desist from reporting alleged crimes that are unsubstantiated, urging them to always confirm from the command before publication in order not to cause apprehension.
The Anambra Police boss maintained that in as much as people have fundamental rights to organise peaceful protests, the command would not tolerate any protest that threatens the fragile peace in the State.
One of the kidnap suspects, Engineer Nnatu Chiedozie from Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka Local Government Area, claimed that he is innocent of the allegations level against him.
