Classroom and Administrative blocks at Community Secondary School, Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area which were renovated by Chief Gordon Obidigbo through Okuchukwumunyelu Foundation have been commissioned by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
commissioning the project, Governor Soludo, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, noted that human capital development is part of the priorities of his administration and that the benefactor has done his part in laying strong foundation for a better future for children at the school, which is in line with his Public Private Community Partnership Initiative for sustainable development.
Governor Soludo explained that accountability and judicious management of resources have enabled his administration do much in infrastructure and other sectors, and called for more hands in addressing the needs of the citizenry.
In his remark, the National President of Oko Peoples Union, Barrister Casmir Nwafor, who thanked Chief Obidigbo for keeping his promise of supporting his leadership at community level, assured that the development of Oko community and Orumba North at large is his priority.
Barrister Nwafor, who is also the Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba North Local Government Area, urged well-to-do individuals in the council area to assist in community development, noting that only government cannot address the needs of the people.
On her part, the Principal of the school, Mrs Ifeoma Enekwechi, said this was the first time an individual would commit his wealth in assisting the school for a better future for children passing through the school, noting that the event will spur more people to give attention to other pressing needs of the school, including lack of perimeter fence, sporting equipments, modern teaching and learning materials as well as modern toilet facilities.
The benefactor, Chief Obidigbo, represented by the Cordinator, Okuchukwumunyelu Foundation, Mr Ernest Nwosu, said decline in quality of education in public schools, which he attended, made him decide to contribute his quota in addressing the challenge, thereby restoring confidence in public schools.
Due to security challenges still facing the school, Chief Obidigbo explained that items procured for furnishing of the buildings will be brought on resumption of next term.
Students of the school through their Senior Prefect, Master Chidiebere Akpan, joined in the ceremonial cutting of tape to mark official commissioning of the projects, after which members of Oko Youth Movement presented award to Chief Obidigbo for his interventions in the community.
