Anambra State Chapter of Markets Traders Association of Nigeria, MATAN have been inaugurated.
The event held at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, had traders and stakeholders from the twenty-one local government areas that make up the state in attendance.
The Commissioner For Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji and his Agriculture counterpart, Dr. Foster Ihejiofor in their remarks commended the organization for its effort towards establishing strong presence in the state and enumerated the achievement of the state government in promote business and commerce, assuring that the state is willing to partner with such organization in key areas.
According to the National Secretary of the organization, Mr. Johnson Olakunle, MATAN is an organization to instituted to protect the interests of traders through tackling the issues of multiple taxation, ensuring that traders genuinely benefit from government small business funding and palliatives when made available.
Mr. Olakunle disclosed that a digital platform, known as integrated revenue management system has been launched to be a one-stop-shop for the registration and identification of traders and helping them benefit from social services.
The Deputy National President of MATAN, Mrs. Ebele Okafor remarked that the organization boast of over forty-million members in the country and has partnered with Federal Inland Revenue Service and other organizations geared towards helping traders tackle the challenges facing them and their businesses.
In his speech, the state Chairman of MATAN, Chief Okwudili Ibekwe represented by the Vice Chairman of MATAN, Mr. Okwudili Illoabueke said the aim of the organization is to uplift traders and help them surmount bottlenecks such as multiple taxation while also enjoying social services as health insurance coverage and soft loans for their businesses.
The event featured award presentation to the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo as Patron and Matron of the organization, as well as inauguration of State and Local Government Executives of MATAN.
