Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Commissioners for Industry, Agriculture, and land to mobilize, acquire and gazette land for an industrial and agricultural hub in all the twenty-one Local Government Areas to encourage investors, actualization of think home philosophy and creation of jobs for the teaming youths.

 

 

 

The House passed the resolution following a motion presented to that effect by the member representing Ihiala Constituency Two, Mr. Golden Iloh during plenary in Awka.

 

 

 

House of Assembly Correspondent Emmanuel Chigbata said that according to Mr. Iloh, industrialization and agriculture remain the major fulcrum towards the development and advancement of any societ.

 

He opined that the high cost of commodities in the State is as a result of low productivity in terms of industrialization and agriculture to meet the demand of Ndi Anambra which has invariably affected the whole country as well as the value of naira against the dollar.

 

 

 

He stressed that establishment of gazetted industrial and agricultural hubs will move Anambra State from consumption to production economy, placing the State at the forefront of emancipating itself from the present economic challenges the country is facing and supporting the country towards national growth and development.

 

 

 

Mr. Iloh further said that if hub is achieved in all the Local Government Areas, it will go a long way in attracting indigenous and other investors and create jobs for the teaming youths.

 

 

 

Supporting the motion, the Deputy Majority Leader, Dr. Jude Akpua, the Deputy Minority Leader, Dr Nobel Igwe and Chief Whip, Mr. Jude Ngobili, noted that the country is currently facing food insecurity and to get things right, there is needto create an avenue were people will have land for cultivation.

 

 

 

On their parts, the member representing Aguata Constituency Two, Chief Tony Muobike, the Deputy Minority Whip, Nkechi Ogbuefi, and Dr Nonso Atuchukwu, in their separate submissions, commended the sponsor of the motion saying that establishment of industrial and agricultural hubs would give employment to youths.

 

The Speaker Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze said the essence of the motion is to encourage government to acquire more lands for the interest of the public, noting that there are lots of investors who want to come into Anambra State, including farmers who are looking for land to farm especially those at flood prone area, in which they can get through government policies.

 

 

 

The Speaker urged the various Committees of the House to encourage Commissioners to locate areas where government can acquire land.

 

 

 

The speaker read out the resolution, which received support from the lawmakers.
