Shops, petrol stations, markets, and event centres are currently booming in Awka, the state capital, Nibo, Enugwu-Ukwu, Nwagu-Agulu, Ekwulobia and Oko despite the end bad governance protest which continued in parts of the country.

ABS correspondent went to town today to monitor if there are gathering of protesters in any part of the state and the level of economic activities going on.

ABS News Crew observed that at major banks, only security operatives were seen moving around as movements seem restricted while the Federal and State roads were free from any protests or assemblies.

At the Jerome Udorji State Secretariat, Awka, and the Federal Secretariat, Awka, ABS witnessed high number of civil servants at work just like every other normal day.

Speaking to the ABS, a resident of Enugwu-Ukwu, Mr. Onwubiko Onwuamaeze said that the nationwide anti-hardship and bad governance protest is good but hurtful as many who are in the market are as result of hunger while others are participating through sit-at-home to avoid had I known.

He said that though the state is not participating in the protest, a closer look shows that economic and social activities were not as busy as other days , calling on government at all levels to awaken to the plight of the masses in the wake of economic hardship facing the country.

At Ekwulobia and Oko, businesses were booming while students were seen going about their daily activities without any form of rumored protest or violence especially at Eke Ekwulobia, Federal Polytechnic Oko and Awgbu all in Orumba North council area.

Speaking in Ekwulobia and Oko respectively, a transporter, Mr. Chimezie Ezeiruoma and Secretary General of NANS Zone F, Comrade Cynthia Felix, appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s developmental agenda in the council area and said that traders, residents and students in the area though they acknowledged the hardship in the country but will not be pushed into increased untold suffering to satisfy selfish interests of some groups.

They used the opportunity to decry the regular increase in cost of commodities and asked that the government should expedite palliative measures in reducing the sufferings faced by the citizenry, pointing out that protest should not always be the first resorts.
