The National President of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Barrister Titus Akpudo says that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s infrastructural development has continued to place the state on the limelight and needs stronger support for him to succeed in making Anambra an investors’ hub.
Barrister Akpudo stated this in Awka during the inauguration of the Elders Council of the Association of Non Indigenes in Anambra State, made up of people from different parts of the country and ethnic groups who are resident in the state.
The Elders Council will serve as a guide for the executive and members of the association as a way to address some of the challenges facing them, especially with the narrative in some quarters that insecurity is perpetuated by non-indigenes.
Barrister Akpudo commended the association for taking a bold step by identifying with the government who has given a level playing ground for everyone to live and thrive in their endeavors, saying that non indigenes in the state represents over one-point-two million of the state’s population, charging them to keep championing the solution policies and programme.
He disclosed that the non-indigene association has been issued a certificate to operate as an affiliate group of ASATU and urged them to champion peace, togetherness and development of the State.
In an address of welcome, the National President of the Association of Non Indigenes in Anambra State, Prince Chigozie Nweke said that the elders are leaders and title holders in their respective state organizations and are known by both government and security operatives, stating that their aims include, establishment of an association that would be governed by the rule of law, justice, equity, transparency and brotherliness.
Prince Nweke commended the transformative initiatives of the Governor Soludo’s administration which he said has significantly uplifted the state, and that they are proud to support his vision for a secured, vibrant, and economically thriving state.
Speaking shortly after they were inaugurated, Chief Michael Nwatu, on behalf of other members of the elder’s council, pleaded with Barrister Akpudo to help and ask town unions in the state to recognize them in their communities as partners in progress.
In their goodwill messages, Dr Akeem Abidahon and Musa Bello Shelleng praised the security situation in the country and assured to support the government in all their policies and programmes.
In her remark, the Woman Leader of the association, Mrs Rauta Audu highlighted the women’s wing’s efforts to ensure the welfare of the non-indigenes in the state.
The presentation of certificates by Barrister Akpudo to the elder’s council was the climax of the programme.
