The wife of the governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has surpassed the earlier one thousand benchmark for beneficiaries of her ongoing free organic seeds programme.

In the latest list released earlier this week on the governor’s wife verified social media handles, three hundred and eleven persons were added as new beneficiaries, taking the total number to one thousand two hundred and twelve.

The latest addition of three hundred and eleven beneficiaries in the seventh batch of the historic programme is the highest since the free seeds programme began in the first week of July 2024.

Mrs Soludo had on July 4, 2024, announced that the free seeds programme, which was originally planned to be benefitted by just five hundred persons, was a way to celebrate her fifty-fourth birthday which occurred on the 31st of July, 2024.

The Anambra first lady who is also the founder of the non-governmental crusade, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, stated that winners would be announced on her social media handles and on other affiliated platforms every weekend until the end of July, but has taken the whole gesture into the month of August.

With more and more people indicating interests on a daily basis to benefit from the programme, Mrs Soludo saw the need to expand the original number to accommodate more beneficiaries.

The governor’s wife had stated that seeing each garden do well across all the benefiting households would give her every sense of celebration that any birthday could present, and asked those who would be benefiting to carry out the task with dedication and excellence.

However, on July 16, 2024, Mrs Soludo made a new announcement to extend the deadline for the programme beyond the current date, citing increasing interests from people whom she would love to benefit from the gesture.

It is worthy to note that the Anambra governor’s wife is the first and only first lady in Nigeria to have carried out such a programme in its current nature.
