The wife of Anambra State Governor , Mrs Nonye Soludo, recently launched a natural food supplement to tackle malnutrition among children in the state.

The governor’s wife who launched the product known as ‘Nonye’s Healthy Living Pap’ in Awka stated that the natural meal is wholesomely-prepared supplement that provides children with all the necessary nutrients to boost their general immune system.

According to United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF, Nigeria has the second highest burden of stunted children in the world, with a national prevalence rate of 32 percent of children under five, while estimated two million children in Nigeria suffer from severe acute malnutrition and only two out of every ten children affected receive treatment.

In view of the far-reaching impact of malnutrition, including the loss of human capital and adverse effects on the life of children , it is important for targeted nutrition interventions through swift and concerted action to rectify the prevailing disparities in nutrition status among children in the state and Nigeria, towards securing a healthier and more prosperous future for the nation at large.

Nonye’s Healthy Living Pap is made of three key ingredients, namely: groundnut, corn, and soya bean, and is rich in vitamins B1, B2, B3 and Iron.

According to the Governor’s wife, the supplement aims to enrich children with special nutritional needs that will among other things enable the state to move from the present second position as the state with the lowest number of Under-five mortality to the first position, and maintain the spot for as long as it takes.

The meal will also close the gap in protein deficiency among children in the state caused by lack of accessibility, availability and affordability of food items, including protein sources.

As the Anambra State government continues to establish various strategies to eliminate malnutrition among children in the state, the Governor’s wife Non Governmental Organization Healthy Living With Nonye Soludo has continued to evolve interventions that supports those strategies to deliver effective results, especially with the heavy impact of food insecurity as well as social and economic challenges across the country.

The intervention offers every child in Anambra State the opportunity to grow healthy and overcome the threats of malnutrition.

A well structured approach has also adopted for the distribution of the product across the 21 local government areas of Anambra State including a referral Centre in every council area where the meal can be accessed.

Each referral centre will develop a database that feeds a central database with information about collection, monitoring, and progress, while every child who is on the meal would be consistently monitored to ascertain their recovery progress.

According to World Health Organisation , sixty percent of factors affecting individual health and quality of life are correlated to lifestyle. Unfortunately millions of people follow an unhealthy lifestyle and often suffer the burden of illness, disability and even death. Many health challenges including metabolic diseases, joint and skeletal problems, cardio-vascular diseases, hypertension and overweight, among others can be caused by an unhealthy lifestyle. Malnutrition, unhealthy diet, smoking, alcohol consumption , drug abuse, stress and others , are some of common unhealthy life styles that are holding many people hostage today.

According recent studies, lifestyle has a significant influence on physical and mental health of human being and reforming unhealthy life style is necessary in preventing health challenges. That is why Ndi Anambra and indeed Nigerians should embrace Mrs Nonye Soludo’s Healthy Living Initiative.
