The Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze says the State Assembly is constitutionally empowered to make quality laws for the conduct of local government elections and general administration of the Local Government Areas.

Speaking on the recent announcement of the local government election in the State by the State Independent Electoral Commission and subsequent amendment of relevant sections of the ANSIEC law by the State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Udeze maintained that sequel to the fact that Local Government Election was last held in the state over ten years ago, certain sections of the law need to be amended to suit current realities.

The speaker who described as unfounded and diversionary, reports trending in the social media of crisis in the State House of Assembly, noted that the amendment on few sections of the ANSIEC law was done by twenty six out of thirty State lawmakers due largely to the merits of the amendment.

He commended the lawmakers for their resolve to always champion the interest of the people through their Legislative engagements, adding that the amendment is in the best interest of Ndi Anambra and for the smooth running of the twenty-one Local Government Areas of the State, and called on those who are undermining the integrity of the State Assembly to desist forthwith.

Right Honourable Udeze while revealing that the eighth Anambra State House of Assembly under his watch is not under the influence or control of any organ or authority assured that as an independent arm of government, the House is committed to making giant contributions towards the peace and development of Anambra State.
