The Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Anambra Chapter, has endorsed the September 28th Anambra state local government election, expressing full commitment of members to participate in the exercise.
The Chairman of IPAC in Anambra, Chief Uche Ugwoji gave the endorsement in a press briefing held in Eziowelle in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
According to Chief Ugwoji, IPAC being an umbrella body of all registered political parties in Anambra state, has resolved that in furtherance of deepening democracy in Nigeria, especially at the grassroots level, and bringing governance closer to the people, the association will fully participate in the local government elections as scheduled by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC, to hold on the September 28, 2024, according to Anambra State Electoral Law 2024.
He acknowledged that ANSIEC had promised a very credible, fair and transparent elections during the stakeholders meeting convened by the body and revealed that the decision was collectively taken by the body.
Chief Ugwoji assured that the upcoming local government election will be a liberation for the grassroots and will assist the state engineer massive developments in all the twenty-one local government areas of the state.
The IPAC Chairman advised the electorate to be ready, come out and vote on the day of the election and ensure they vote-in credible individuals for quality representation.
Among the political parties present during the briefing were the State Chairmen of AA, AAC, ACCORD, ADC, ADP, APP, APM, NNPP, NRM, PRP, SDP, YPP and ZLP.
They expressed satisfaction with the deliberation between the body and ANSIEC, saying that the decision reflects their desire to participate and field quality candidates that will reflect the aspirations of the people and assured that they all have started selling expression of interest forms, while primary elections as well as submission of candidates to ANSIEC will follow soon.
The Chairman of ANSIEC, Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe, had, during a stakeholders meeting held with party leaders last week, promised to address all rising issues raised by IPAC in ensuring that the election is conducted within the ambits of the Law and geared towards carrying all stakeholders along for a smooth election.
