The Traditional ruler of Omor community in Ayamelum Local Government Area, Igwe Chris Chidume, has promised that every home in the community will benefit in the third phase of the ongoing water project in the community, courtesy of the royal palace.

Igwe Chidume, who stated this at the 2024 New Yam Festival of Omor community, said that the palace has continued to ensure a steady power and water supply to his people, just as he announced an ongoing and completed projects that will speed up development of Omor, such as road and electricity.

Joseph Egbeocha completes the story Performing the ceremonial cutting of yam to mark the ceremony, Igwe Chidume, who highlighted the importance of the festival among Ndi Igbo, and Ndi Omor in particular, prayed that people of the agrarian community will continue to have bountiful harvest in all they do in coming years.

 

The Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Entertainment, Comrade Don Onyenji, who restated the government’s commitment to fighting hunger, said that part of the strategies include encouraging people to go into farming, while providing the needed inputs and noted the importance of the annual festival, reason the state government encourages its celebration.

Thrilled by the rich culture of Omor people in display at the event, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Igbariam, Professor Kate Omenugha, said that the institution will consider Omor for research as it plans the establishment of an institute for Igbo cultural heritage.

The event attended by Traditional rulers from within and outside Anambra, the Senator representing Anambra North, Tony Nwoye, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, the Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Sir Chido Obidiegwu, among others, featured paying of homage to Igwe Omor, and cultural displays.
