The Umunze community in Orumba South Local Government Area has extolled the efforts of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in all sectors of the state economy, especially in road infrastructure and security of lives and property of the citizenry.
In his address at the 2024 General Assembly of Umunze Progressive Union, the President General of the community, Engineer Ezekiel Iheazor said that to complement efforts of the state government on security situation, the community will establish a database to have detailed information about the whole people therein, and called for other measures to address the challenge and save the community from total security collapse.
He said that the first ever general assembly under his seventh month old administration was designed to bring community members together; with a view to brainstorming on progress and unity of Umunze, adding that his leadership is committed to making the community great again through support of members.
As recommended by the Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs on third January 2024 during a meeting with members of Umunze community, Engineer Iheazor urged his subjects to move motion for the review of the 1982 constitution of the community to keep it in tandem with contemporary aspirations of members, and this was done and supported by all present at the meeting with approval of eleven other committees.
Engineer Iheazor listed the supervision of Umunze Youth Association election that produced Comrade Ibeabuchi Okeke-led executive, liaising with community stakeholders to rehabilitate dilapidated Science Laboratory of Community High School Umunze, assisting to get two Science teachers for Government Technical College Umunze as some of his success stories, and called for continued support of his people.
Earlier in his address, the Traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Promise Eze, represented by the Chairman, Igwe-In-Council, Ichie Lawrence Ukaejiofor, called for support to the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Umunze President-General and Umunze Igwe-In-Council to achieve a prosperous and livable community.
The Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area, Mr Shedrack Azubike, represented by the Secretary of the local government, Pastor Chinedu Onyeacho, urged others to help in shaping the future of Umunze, promising to replicate the development strides of Governor Soludo in the area.
Others who participated in the meeting, including an indigenous Anglican priest, Venerable Nnamdi Onyeakpa, former President General of Umunze Progressive Union, Mr John Akanyeonu, the Chairman of all village Chairmen in the community, Mr Hyginus Umeaka, the Secretary of Umunze Peace Summit, Professor Clementina Agbionu and a member of Umunze Youth Association, Mr Uchenna Nwoke, said that with the meeting, the community is back on its track for a match to sustainable development; having put aside individuals differences.
The event streamed online was attended by the member representing Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, Princess Chinwe Nnabuife, represented by her aide, Mr Austin Ozo, and commenced with a special prayer led by the eldest member of Igwe-In-Council, Chief Alex Okoli, to mark official entrance into the community hall.
