Anambra State Government has arrested a thirty-year-old Chinonso Ezekiel Nwaebonyi for defiling a seven-year-old girl in Awka.
The suspect who hails from Izzi in Ebonyi State was apprehended after the mother of the seven-year-old victim reported the incident to the ministry.
According to the seven-year-old, she, alongside her twin brother, usually visits the next compound to play since the holiday started before the suspect started defiling her.
She stated that the suspect has had carnal knowledge of her for about five times always on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The mother of the victim said, she got to know one of the days she came back from work to bathe her kids and discovered that her daughter’s private part was swollen.
On enquiry, she was briefed of what has been going on and she quickly went to the next compound to complain to the guardians of the suspect after which she took her daughter to a pharmacy before coming to the Ministry.
Meanwhile, the suspect, who had earlier denied the allegation, later confessed to committing the crime only once.
According to the thirty- year-old, he never forced the girl but only asked her to raise her clothes and lie down on the ground.
The seven-year-old victim and her twin brother were born to her parents after ten years of childlessness.
As at the time of writing this report, the suspect has been handed over to the police where he will be interrogated and charged to court.
