Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC, has warned political actors in the state against godfatherism in the upcoming Local Government election, promising that the people’s votes must count during the election.

 

Its chairman, Mrs. Genevieve Osakwe gave the promise during the commission’s tour of Ogbaru, Onitsha North and South local government areas in preparation for the September twenty-eight election.

According to Mrs. Osakwe, a magistrate who was represented by Commissioner in-charge of Information and Publicity, Sir Anthony Nnalue, the reasons for the tour is to assess the council areas in preparation for the exercise and to sensitise the people on the timetable for the election.

 

Promising that the election will be credible, free and fair, Mrs. Osakwe urged residents and political parties not to be discouraged by the different propaganda going on in some sections of the media and other social media platforms and participate actively during the election and assured them their votes will speak through the results.

On her part, the Commissioner in-charge of Welfare and Field Services, Mrs. Bernadine Obande appealed to stakeholders to ensure that conducive atmosphere is provided for staff and the electorate during the process and enjoined all to mobilize eligible and registered voters to participate in the process.

The stakeholder’s meetings were well attended by the Transition Committee Chairmen of the Local Government Areas and party representatives in the areas visited.
