Following the environmental pollution and degradation caused by unauthorized mining activities in Anambra State and the consequential damage to Anambra roads, constructed with tax payers’ money, mining was necessarily suspended.

According to a press release signed by the Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu, a special Committee on Mining Reforms was subsequently set up by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, to ensure best standard of practice and screen operators for his approval.

The release noted that the process has been completed and the Governor has approved the Certificate of five miners to resume their mining operations, but in strict compliance with newly prescribed guidelines.

The release urged the prospective operators in the State to comply with the requirements for mining to enable them seek and obtain the Governor’s approval to commence their operations.
