The saying teach me how to fish rather than give me fish to eat was exhibited few days ago when youths, men and women of the State were tutored on aqua culture form of Agriculture.
Held at Uche Ekwunife event center in Awka, the training tagged ‘Technology Skill Transfer of Aqua Bio “, attracted by the former member that represented Anambra Central Senatorial district at the National Assembly, Senator Uche Ekwunife was powered by the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology.
the over two hundred participants at the event were selected from all the three hundred and twenty-six wards of the state.
The three-day event featured lectures, training, practicals and excursion to a fish pond in Okpuno with concrete ponds and ovun.
Declaring the event open, the Director General National Board for Technology Incubator, Dr Chukwu, represented by the Director of the agency in South East, Dr Clarice Chijioke, expressed joy that people of South East extraction are beneficiaries of the program and advised the participants to avail themselves of the life changing opportunity.
Dr Chijioke who doubled as a facilitator at the program tutored the participants on entrepreneurship development and business opportunities, gave an overview of how to develop and excel on businesses where she explained that an entrepreneur is one who has the initiative to transform business to make gains.
In their separate speeches, some representatives from Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Mr., Samuel Usman and Nkole Ogbuagu, from Federal Ministry of Innovation Science and Technology, Abuja said that they are at the event to monitor the event to ensure that it happened as planned for the desired change.
Another facilitator, Mr. Ahmed Oyarebu, took the participants on catfish and crayfish farming, site selection, preparation, growing and harvest, what to do at each stage during the six to nine months rearing for crayfish and three to four months for crayfish in other to come out with greater yield and appealed to the federal government to provide seed money to the participants so that they would start the businesses after training.
The second day of the training featured practical sessions on catfish production while the third day featured training on mushroom production, modern processing methods, and machine requirements by Mr. Emmanuel Chukwu even as Mrs. Esther Igwe coached the participants on financial management.
Some participants appreciated the organizers of the programme especially, Senator Uche Ekwunife for giving them the opportunity to be self-employed, promising to start up their own business with the training they have garnered.
