A legal luminary, Barrister Lawrence Ugwunna and his wife, Oluchukwu have been inducted into the prestigious Ozonkpu Enugwu-Ukwu Na Umunri Society amid funfair.

 

The event which took place at their compound at Iruogbo village, Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka Local Goverment Area, attracted the who is who in the community and beyond, and kicked off with a prayer by a Catholic priest, Reverend Father Damian Chibueze.

Decorating Barrister Ugwunna after all the Ozonkpu rituals had been performed, the Head, Ozonkpu title holders in Enugwu-Ukwu Na Umunri, Chief Joseph Okonkwo who spoke through Chief Innocent Okoye said that Ozonkpu is the highest and most prestigious Ozo title in Enugwu-Ukwu Na Umunri clan and that the recipient has satisfied all the requirements of the Ozonkpu title induction.

He called on Barrister Ugwunna to always keep to the rules and regulations guiding the title, say the truth at all times, help the needy, promote peace and unity, and ensure the promotion and sustenance of Enugwu-Ukwu Na Umunri cultural heritage and that of Ndigbo in general, among others.

 

Responding, Barrister Ugwunna whose Ozonkpu title name is “Omekagu” explained that his father tried so much to take Ozo title but due to some circumstances he could not achieve his aim and pleaded with him to ensure that he is inducted into the Ozo society.

He made it clear that his father is now a fulfied man wherever he is because he has achieved that which he begged him and appreciated Ozonkpu society of Enugwu-Ukwu Na Umunri for finding him worthy, promising to use his position to advance the course of humanity in his country home and beyond.

 

In an interview, his wife, Oluchukwu Ugwunna who was decorated as “Lolo Akaleze” thanked God for the success of the event and promised to keep supporting her husband through prayers at all times.

Many dignitaries from within and outside the State attended the event including the 1999 Class of Nawfia High School, members of the Nigerian Bar Association, the Transition Committee Chairman of Njikoka Local Goverment Area, Barrister Chinedu Ononiba, his Dunukofia Counterpart, Barrister Chijioke Ozumba, the President General of Enugwu-Agidi community, Chief Chukwuebuka Onuorah, among numerous others.

Paying of homage by friends and well wishers as well as various cultural displays, including the popular Abiriba cultural dance, masquerading, including Ijele performance were the climax of the event.
