An Agro Allied specialist, Chief Emeka Nzekwe, has called on the government at all levels to establish contact with all practicing farmers to assist them in ensuring improved yields.

Speaking in an interview with the ABS in Awka, Chief Nzekwe, who engages in animal husbandry, poultry farming, subsistence agriculture and beekeeping, maintained that with the Governor’s support through incentives, practicing farmers across the country can break even and reduce the high cost of living due to the dearth of foodstuffs.

He described the continuous support and patronage of “political farmers” by the government as discouraging, stating that they have no knowledge of agriculture and no farmland or husbandry for rearing animals.

Chief Nzekwe, who hails from Awka, said that he embarked on Agro Allied business to assist the government in reducing the unemployment rate among the teeming youth populace, in addition to boosting the economy and charged the youths to engage in agriculture to become self-reliant.

He called on the government to provide security for women and other farmers in their various farmlands so that they can go to their farms without fear and also called for the implementation of the open grazing law passed by the National Assembly to reduce the incidences of cows destroying crops on various farms.

Chief Nzekwe commended the Anambra State government for distributing over one million economic tree seedlings to Ndi Anambra and its “one youth, two skills” initiative, stating that such moves will go a long way in creating wealth for the people and called for the appointment of those engaged in real agriculture to agricultural-related positions in the country, especially as Ministers, Special Advisers, and Commissioners for Agriculture, to ensure quality service delivery.
