Presidents General of various Communities across Anambra have been urged to initiate empowerment schemes that will help to create a brighter prospect for the people, especially the teeming youth populace.

Chief Emeka Obieze, a community leader in Awka, Awka South local government area, made the call on ABS Radio’s audience participatory programme, Eko Awka and stated that this has become necessary due to the current hardship the masses are facing.

According to Chief Obieze, for the empowerment scheme to achieve its desired objective, it must be done in conjunction with the traditional institution and have reputable individuals as members of its Board of Directors.

He described Ndigbo as people known for their creativity and hard work and called on youths to engage in skills and ventures that will be purposeful.

Chief Emeka Obi Eze, a former councilor in Awka South local government area, commended the Anambra Broadcasting Service for its quality programmes, especially those that promote the identity of the people, including the Eko Awka programme and called for their sustenance.

Another guest on the programme, Chief Kanayochukwu Obidigbo, regretted that youths are no longer keen on learning various trades and skills and called on affluent individuals to seek ways of encouraging the youths to learn various skills and trades through apprenticeship.

He commended some individuals in Awka Community who have continued to roll out empowerment schemes for both indigent persons and the youths to make them self-reliant and charged youths, especially those of Awka extraction, to key into the “one youth, two skills” initiative of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to become employers of labor instead of job seekers.
