Family members, friends, associates, clergymen, traditional ruler and well-wishers gathered at Saint Jame’s Anglican Church, Awkuzu, Oyi Council Area, to pay their last respects to Late Professor Felix Ndu.
Late Professor Ndu of Umuobi Village, Awkuzu, who died at the age of ninety was the Pioneer Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, an active and very supportive parishioner, survived by his children, grand and great grandchildren as well as many other relations.
The Bishop on the Niger, the Right Reverend Owen Nwokolo, who attended the burial service, prayed for the family of the deceased asking God to give the children long life, beautify them in all ramifications, strengthens them in the faith so that they will not backslide.
At the Saint Jame’s Anglican Church, Awkuzu, venue for the church service, the Priest-in-charge of Saint Luke’s Anglican Church, Awkuzu, Reverend Tochukwu Odiliorah in his sermon, said the deceased was a son of an Anglican Catechist who brought him up in the fear of God and advised the Ndu family not to allow the light of the gospel in their family grow dim.
While urging all to prepare for heaven, Reverend Odiliorah asked all to use their God-given wealth to bless people around them.
The first son of the deceased, Mr. Emeka Ndu said he will miss his father’s words of wisdom, guidance, encouragement and appreciated those who came from within and outside the state inspite of the security situation in the country, to come and identify with them in their moment of grief.
The Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu on behalf of the students, staff and Management of the college, condoled the Ndu family, pointing out that the deceased lived a sacrificial and impactful life through his scholarship scheme, leaving a lasting legacy.
An Executive Member of the Knights of Saint Christopher and a former MD of ABS, Sir Oselloka Offor, explained that they came to identify with one of their own who played a pivotal role in their group, in evangelism and social development and urged his children to follow in his footsteps.
In their condolence messages, a friend of the family, Chief Chukwuma Okolo and a member of Adimma Awkuzu, Mr.Cletus Chibugo said they are very proud of the deceased saying that they are not mourning him but giving him a befitting sendoff and prayed that the children will live as long as he lived.
Dignitaries that attended the event were Professor Uche Azikiwe, Mrs Blessing Anikwenwa, Igwe Charles Anikwenze of Awkuzu, former Provost of NOCEN, Dr Ifeyinwa Osegbo, members of Nigerian Academia of Education led by Professor Oggochukwu Ibeneme among others.
Prayers, thanksgiving, special anthem by the choir, interment and condolence visits took centre stage during the funeral service.
