Stakeholders which include health educators, traditional rulers, religious leaders and the media have participated in an orientation programme organized by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, in Abuja.

 

The aim of the exercise was to see the possibility of achieving ninety five percent vaccination coverage for measles and polio, eighty percent coverage for yellow fevers and providing a second opportunity for yellow fever vaccination in the targeted twenty-six states of the federation.

A total of twenty-six states of the federation are billed to participate in the Health Campaign Implementation programme Scheduled to kick off by the third week of September 2024.

 

In his Opening Speech, the Director Advocacy and Communication, of the National primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Aliyu Ladan noted that stakeholders were invited to help create awareness to the targeted audience, adding that the media is indispensable in the ongoing efforts to sensitize people on the 2024 integrated supplementary immunization activities that will commence in the twenty-six states of the federation.

According to Dr Ladan, the campaign will concentrate on vaccination on yellow fever, measles, polio, human papilloma virus and other routine vaccines.

 

In an overview of the 2024 integrated supplementary immunization activities, an officer of the Agency Mr. Shamus Bello stated that the media has a role to play in creating awareness by educating the public on the risk of non-vaccination and the benefits of vaccination.

According to Mr. Bello, the Media is a powerful influencer and conveyors of information, adding that the campaign was to protect the children who are members of the community from preventable diseases, stressing that the media is critical for the successful implementation for the campaign.

 

At the end of the orientation, a communique was released and signed by the media representatives which emphasized the need for advocacy, effective information dissemination and support for the campaign strategies.
