The Anambra State Government in collaboration with Action Aids Nigeria, has inaugurated the state Multi-Stakeholders Action Committee on Gender Based Violence, GBV, Prevention.
While inaugurating the committee in Awka, the state Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, described war against GBV as a special one for Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration which has zero tolerance for rascality and charged religious leaders to key into the fight against GBV.
Condemning GBV in Anambra State in particular and Nigeria in general, Commissioner Obinabo called for early written wills by fathers which she noted can be reviewed by the author from time to time to nip in the bud crisis from siblings and kingsmen after the demise of such father.
The manager, Project and Lagos Office, ActionAid Nigeria, Mrs. Vivian Efem-Bassey, listed contributions towards an Anambra State where women and girls are free from experiencing GBV.
She noted that one of the major purposes of inaugurating the committee is for them to be actively involved in education, sensitization and engagement of their sphere of influence for the prevention of GBV.
After the official inauguration, the participants who were engaged in an orientation course, later commenced a- four-day intensive training on the language of gender equality in GBV programming, understanding of socio-cultural and Religious Norms and their impacts on GBV in Nigeria, Forms, types, impact and root causes of GBV in Anambra State and Advocacy for Social Change towards GBV, among other numerous topics.
