Technoserve Nigeria recently staged a Road show to create awareness on plastic waste collection and recycling which will go a long way in providing economic opportunities through sustainable waste management.

The programme sponsored by USAID and Coca-Cola Company foundation was launched by Nigeria Plastic Solution Activity Community with Anambra and Lagos as pilot States.

The Anambra State project manager Mr. franklyn Nwarube said they target to engage local waste collectors, community leaders and residents of Onitsha to expose them on waste separation and about the economic potential of recycling through the circular economy approach championed by Nigeria plastic Solution Activity.


He expressed optimism that the purpose of the project will be achieved and thanked the local collectors for believing in them as well as expressed their readiness to partner them, saying that soon the environment will be free from plastic wastes.

Speaking in an interview the senior project Manager Mr. Benneth Obasiohia said the project is geared towards providing a long-term Solution to plastic wastes while empowering local communities to turn waste into wealth.

He thanked their sponsors USAID and Coca – cola Foundation for believing in them and promised to work with local waste collectors to achieve the desired goal.

One of the Local collectors Chief Walter Ukachukwu said he has been in the waste collection business for over twenty years but regretted that paucity of fund is his major problem.

He expressed joy at the emergence of Technoserve with USAID and Coca-Cola Foundation sponsoring the project and expressed the hope that the job will now be easier as more funds will be provided.
