United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC) Worldwide is an Offshoot of ALAIGBO ACHIEVERS LEGACY, a socio-cultural umbrella body of Igbo Elders Council, consisting of Elder- statesmen, major stakeholders, opinion leaders and leaders of thought both within Nigeria and in the Diaspora. It is an independent movement and a child of necessity, advocating the restoration of Igbo identity, language, norms, values, tradition, cultural heritage as well as regeneration of Igbo Think-Home Investment and Development Philosophy.

The Council is located in different parts of the world but headquartered in Igboland, with a well-articulated philosophy, vision, mission and corresponding mandates, some of which are articulated in the UNIEC Constitution:

The council which has the PHILOSOPHY of Uplifting and Inspiring stakeholders for greater Igbo society is guided by humanism which extols the good of man as the purpose of all action, and an active concern for his welfare as the central object of policy, an ideology of encouraging the best in the evolution of society and proper use of natural environment.

The Council also has a VISION of lawfully promoting Ndigbo and other like-minded interests in Igboland, Nigeria and across the world as well as create a united and credible voice for Igbo elders and stakeholders towards the restoration of Igbo identity and ideology in Nigeria and beyond.

It equally has a mission to continually conscientize and mobilize the Igbo and other like-minded people towards the attainment of the vision at all times, and to actively and purposefully commit to the promotion and actualization of Igbo agenda and interests. It targets to advance Igbo economic and political power, security and infrastructural developments, as well as unite Ndigbo at home and in diaspora.

The Council also aims to restore and modernize positive elements of Igbo literary culture like the “Nsibiri” writing and Igbo iron, metallurgical achievements which exist around Abiriba, Afikpo, Agbor, Igbo-Ukwu, Lejja, Obrikom, among others; and Igbo traditional medical science, sports, music and dance, restore Igbo self-empowered industrialization in line with global best practices, act as a final alternative peaceful dispute resolution mechanism for Igbo individuals and groups, among others.

In line with its policy, the Council strives to strengthen bond among elders and stakeholders for the growth of the social and business environment of Ndigbo in the drive to achieve its mandate of an independent movement and a community of esteemed Igbo-elder-statesmen, advocating an egalitarian, united Nigeria, characterized by social equality and equal rights for all ethnic nationalities in the country.

This is in line with the noble objective of bridging the cultural, religious and economic gaps in states as well as interfacing with government at all levels, with a view to promoting peace, harmony and good leadership in governance. Prospective members of the Council are duly recommended or elected and must of necessity be members of the United Igbo Elders Council Worldwide in their respective state chapters both within Nigeria and in the Diaspora and should be people of integrity and impeccable character.

This will streamline the cardinal objective of promoting the unity and cohesive existence of the entire Igbo Nation. NDIGBO THINK-HOME“ Alaigbo bu ofu, oganihu Ndigbo bu nkeanyi. Politics, ethnicity or religion should not divide us.
