The National Association of the Nigerian Nurses and Midwifery from the southeast, South-South and South West Zonal have held its regional meeting in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

The event was also used to commission a Midwifery Office in Awka by the Secretary General of the association, Dr. Farouk Umar Abubakar.
Addressing the nurses and midwives, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike commended the association for holding the meeting in the state, adding that nurses and midwives are integral part of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration because of the work they do.


The Commissioner explained that Governor Soludo in less than three years in office has employed about five hundred nurses, describing it as phenomenal and assured that the current administration in the state will continue to work with the association for enhanced healthcare system.

The Secretary General of the association, Dr. Abubakar in his submission described Anambra nurses as unique, having played vital roles in the progress of the profession in Nigeria and beyond, appreciating the State Chairman of the association, Mrs. Edith Onwuka for doing a great job.


The National President of the association, Dr. Michael Nnachi also asked nurses and midwives to keep doing their work with commitment and professionalism, while calling on the government to prioritize the needs of healthcare workers.

Earlier, the State Chairman of the association, Mrs. Onwuka noted that the meeting was what the association do yearly to look at their work, cross fertilize ideas on how to move the association forward for a better and efficient service delivery.

The Anambra State Head of Service, Barrister Theodora Igwegbe represented at the event by the Head of Industrial Relation of the office, Mrs. Nkechi Nwosu also described nurses and midwives as great and critical in the healthcare profession, saying that the state will continue to take care of their welfare at all times.
