The People of Umueze-Anam in Anambra West Local Government Area have raised an alarm on the dangers posed by Water-Hyacinth on Omambala River which directly affects the villagers.
Speaking at the Omambala Bridge that links Umueri with Umueze-Anam,a vigilante, Mr. Micheal Okeke narrated how they spotted two boys who were trapped in the River but they could not rescue them due to the Water-Hyacinth which blocked the waterways, making it difficult for them to rescue the drowning boys whose identity were yet to be ascertained.
It was noted that the helpless drowning boys whom the villagers said had spent a night struggling to come out of the Omambala River, intermittently raised hands to signal for help before sinking into the river, a sight that raised emotions of the riverine dwellers who pleaded for government’s intervention.
