College of Nursing Sciences, Adazi-Nnukwu in Anaocha Local Goverment Area of Anambra State has held her 2024 matriculation and capping ceremony for 218 year one Nursing and Midwifery students of the institution.
In a pontifical holy mass that heralded the ceremony, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese and Proprietor of the college, Most Reverend Dr Paulinus Ezeokafor, urged the students to strive for perfection in their chosen fields because of the delicate nature of their jobs, while embodying discipline and compassion in dealing with the sick.
Administrator of the College, Reverend Father Jude Igboka, who thanked Bishop Ezeokafor, Board of the College, as well as tutorial and non tutorial staff for their efforts in improving the standard of the school, and parents for supporting their wards to excel in the College, explained that the skill acquisition programme of the College is intended to help students deemphasized monetary gains and still have fulfillment in their jobs, and called on government, groups and individuals to assist some of their students with scholarships.
On her part, the Acting Provost of the College, Mrs Mary-Michael Ezenwuba, who described the College as a citadel of academic excellence and all-round formation of the mind, conscience and character, said the institution is on the path of becoming a world-class with various mechanisms already in place to achieve the feat.
She added that under the administration of Reverend Father Igboka, the College has become among the first three Colleges of Nursing to key into the Nursing Education Reform Agenda of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria as it concerns migrating from School into College of Nursing Sciences; with the first set of ND Nursing students.
In line with the “One youth two skills” agenda of the Anambra State Government, the College Acting Provost said the institution is interested in girl child empowerment, reason it is embarking on construction of a two-storey skill acquisition center, calling on guests, parents and well-wishers to support the College to achieve set goals.
Anambra State Director of Nursing Sciences, Mrs Perpetua Anene, represented by Director Emeritus, Mrs Kosi Ezekegbu, reminded the gathering of the importance of nursing services in quality healthcare delivery, and urged the matriculants to stick to ethics of the profession at all times, and not to be more interested in monetary gains.
The event chaired by Honourable Chukwuma Iloakasia also featured demonstration on life-saving skills, cultural dance displays and capping of the matriculants.
