Onitsha County Club has celebrated her 2024 New Yam Festivals.

The celebration which held at the Sports Complex Fegge, Onitsha, saw to he commissioning of a security facility built to enhance security services in the club.

It was another opportunity to recognitize two deserving members of the club with awards of recognition.

In an address of welcome, the President of the Club, Chief Anietonwa Ajulufo, said the project targets to rebrand and change the face of the Club and expressed gratitude to committed members whose efforts have added value to the growth and development of the club.

He, among others, solicited for support towards achieving the mandate of his administration and pointed out that the club is embarking on other projects such as the establishment of a tennis academy to harness budding talents for grassroot sports development.

Commissioning the project, the special guest of honour, Chief Paul Chukwuma, represented by one time Commissioner of Information in Anambra State, Chief Joe Oforkansi, observed that the project was in pursuit of the aspiration of securing the club community.

Performing the symbolic cutting of yam to mark the event, the Royal father of the day, and Traditional Ruler of Oraukwu, Igwe Dr Emeka Onuorah remarked that the festival remains on of the most revered, sustainable and rich cultural heritage of Ndi Igbo which promotes and fosters peace and unity.

Describing the ceremony as a festival of thanksgiving for bountiful harvest, some of the guests, Chiefs Barth Eli, Felix Maduike , Ben Okoli and Linus Ejiofor highlighted on the importance and vitality of the event.

Speaking to ABS, some the awardees, Chief Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Chuka Gabriel, expressed gratitude to the club for finding them worthy and said the honour is a call to more sacrifice and service to humanity

Induction of new members featured as cultural dance and masquerade displays entertained the  guests.
