The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Anambra State Governorship election for 8th November, 2025, saying the official notice will be published in November, 2024.

Speaking at a meeting with political parties, INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, said the Commission is already planning for this major event, emphasising the need for timely preparations from all parties involved.

He encouraged political parties to stay engaged and avoid last-minute rushes, reminding them that effective planning is key to a successful election

With just 29 days left before the Ondo State Governorship election, Professor Mahmood, outlined the Commission’s preparations, emphasising the importance of collaboration between the Commission and political parties to ensure a smooth and credible election.

The INEC boss noted that out of the 13 activities in the election timetable, 10 have already been completed, including the presentation of the voter register to political parties in Akure.

He was particularly pleased with the compliance of political parties in uploading the list of polling and collation agents for the election.
He also announced that the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) has begun in Ondo State, urging political parties to mobilise their supporters to collect their cards.

In a speech, the Chairman of the Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Yusuf Dantalle, said after 25 years of unbroken democracy, the state of the nation is sour; Nigerians are disillusioned; the rising cost of living and political tension have dampened citizens’ morale in the electoral process resulting in low voter turnout in elections.

He, therefore, on behalf of the council, urged stakeholders in the electoral process to join in voter education, sensitisation and mobilisation to ensure a free, fair, credible, transparent, inclusive, and peaceful election that will meet international standards.
