The Traditional Ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe has encouraged Nigerians to wade through the hard times with courage, perseverance and self-reliance.
Igwe Achebe gave the encouragement in his speech during his twenty third Ofala festival, held at Ime obi Awka road, Onitsha, Onitsha North Local government Area.
Correspondent Emengini Osadebe who covered the 2024 Ofala festival with the theme “Onyekwe, Chi’e Ekwe” reports that the event was sponsored by the first indigenous mobile telecommunication network Globacom limited.
Igwe Achebe accompanied by the members of his cabinet, Obi in Council, members of Agbalanze and Otu Odu societies, Umuada and Ndi Ikporogbe, regretted that the living standard of the people has declined drastically resulting to hopelessness and lack of trust in the government, calling on president Bola Tinubu to urgently convene a non-partisan national economic and security summit to forge a collective way forward for the country.
Speaking to the ABS in separate interviews, the state Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mr Patrick Aghamba and his Culture and Tourism counterpart Comrade Don Onyenji, described Ofala Onitsha as unique and colorful, congratulating the people for their rich cultural heritage which they celebrate annually.
Contributing, the Chairman Onitsha North Local government Area, Mr Nweze Nworah, former member representing Onitsha North 1 in the State House of Assembly Barrister Chugbo Enwezor and member representing Onitsha North and South federal constituency in the House of representative Honorable Emeka Iduu, noted that the culture of Ndi Igbo should not be allowed to die saying that Ofala Onitsha is the cultural heritage of the community handed down to them by their ancestors.
The Traditional Ruler of Abacha, Igwe Nwabunwanne Odiegwu and a representative of Eze Umueri, Prince Ejikeme Igweoñu stated that the tradition of Onitsha is very unique.
The South divisional Head Globacom limited Mr Okechukwu Tochukwu said Globacom, an indigenous telecommunication company believed in uplifting the People’s culture and tradition thereby identifying with their own, enumerating series of Ofala packages of their brand for their customers and promised them better services.
