The Avomimi village Women in Enugwu-Ukwu have protested the Family’s Abandonment of a Matriarch’s Corpse the late Mrs Josephine Nnebocha in Mortuary for over twenty-two months.
The Late Mrs Nnebocha from Nise was the first of five wives of Mr Nnebocha of Avomimi village and died in January, 2023 but has been denied her burial rights by her family over unresolved inheritance issues.
According to the Woman Leader of the village, Mrs. Elizabeth Okoye, Mrs Nnebocha was a true demonstration of an obedient woman and deserves to be given a befitting burial despite any family disagreement and called on the Wife of the Governor of the State, Mrs Nonye Soludo and the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare to review some treatment meted on women, especially in villages and come to their aid and grant their co-wife a final resting place.
The last son of the deceased, Mr. Chizoba Nnebocha said that his step brothers refused his mother burial because of their claims to their father’s compound while a brother to the husband of the deceased, Engineer Emma Nnebocha, in a phone interview said that the case is currently in court.
