Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu Awka North Local Government Area, under the leadership of Acting Rector, Dr. Njideka Rita-Chiekezie, has launched the Women in Agriculture and Technical Education (WATEA) training program.

The two-year project, funded by the French government through the French Embassy in collaboration with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), aims to empower women in agricultural enterprises, enhancing their technical and entrepreneurial skills.

Held at the Polytechnic auditorium, the program focused on four main agricultural enterprises: fishery technology, garri processing, cassava value chain development, and greenhouse vegetable production.

In his address, the Acting Rector said that participants will be trained in the fundamentals of each area, including the establishment and management of fish farms, garri production, cassava processing for products like tapioca and starch, and efficient vegetable farming with greenhouse technology.

In their remarks, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-udeh represented by Mrs Allo oyibo, the Polytechnic’s WATEA technical representative, Mr. Emeka Ilouno, the Southeast liason officer for WATEA and coordinator Professor Julian Okunze expressed confidence that graduates will be equipped to establish and manage their own agricultural businesses, thereby promoting economic growth.

One of the beneficiaries Chiamaka Ofordile expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the training, describing the program as a life-changing opportunity to develop practical skills and advance personal economic stability.
