Livestock Farmers in Southeast and South South states have been urged to embrace technology driven innovations introduced by BigGain Nigeria Limited to increase their productivity and expand their businesses.
Speaking at a capacity building programme organized in Awka by the company, tagged “Seminar on Poultry Production and management : the Biggain Approach”, Professor Jude Iwuno of Food Science and Technology Department, Federal University of Technology Owerri and Consultant for the programme, said the seminar was aimed at bringing practical solutions to poultry business for sustainable impact, noting that some of the major challenges undermining poultry business development in this part of the world remain poor quality feed and high cost of production.
Professor Iwuno explained that Biggain Nigeria Limited came with clear operational framework to assist farmers to achieve the desired goals in poultry and livestock business in general, including establishment of toll milling for all categories of farmers as the company has all the ingredients, raw materials and specialized technology at affordable cost.
He said the company is determined to address constraints and challenges experienced in the management of poultry business as well as provide necessary incentives and motivations to make the investment attractive.
In a paper titled “Poultry Production and Management” , a resource person , and Head of Department of Animal Science, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam Campus Mr Levi Okoye said the Bargain Nigeria Limited has brought relief and better opportunities for farmers to reduce cost and maximize profit, adding that the company does not only provide quality feeds but also assist farmers with professional support services that will enrich their knowledge and skills.
Mr Okoye explained that provision of test kits and laboratory will ensure nutritional quality analysis in balancing feed formular, urging farmers to take full ownership of the facility to actualize their aspirations.
Speaking on, “New product development in poultry industry,” Professor Charles Ishiewu of Food Processing and Product Development Department , Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka ,said quality feeds and supplements from Biggain Company will boost the growth of birds and give farmers value for their investments.
Also speaking, a solar power expert Mr Micheal Iruka , said solar energy has become a new frontier in poultry production, stressing that solar technology help farmers to meet their energy needs at minimal cost.
In their separate reactions, some of the participants including Prince Paul Okoli, Mr Ekene Agubata and Mrs Ogechukwu Onyibor extolled Biggain Nigeria Limited for the initiative, noting that it would accelerate growth and development in livestock subsector.
