Otuocha Zone has emerged winner of the football game of ASUBEB 2024 Under-12 Sports Competition.
Onitsha zone came second while Awka zone came 3rd.
The tournament organized by ASUBEB in collaboration with Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Abuja took place at Awka City Stadium, and featured 4 by 100 meters Relay Girls, 4 by100 meters Relay Boys, athletics, football match, Medal presentation, award of trophies to winning teams and cultural dance.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo represented by, the Chairman Anambra State Sports Commission, Honourable Patrick Onyedum revealed that his ability to pay the accumulated counterpart funds for 2019, 2020 and 2022 UBE Grant made the hosting of the sports Competition possible.
He affirmed that education cannot excel without sports noting that it is an avenue for talent hunt and mentioned some notable sports persons who were discovered during school sports competitions.
The Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh represented by Permanent Secretary, ministry of Education, Mrs Ifeoma Agbaizu ,in her comments, appreciated Governor Soludo for paying the grant that made the hosting of the event possible and told the student athletes that the event is an opportunity for them to exhibit their God-given talents and implored them to be diligent in whatever they do.
In an address, the Executive Chairman, ASUBEB, Dr Vera Nwadinobi revealed that the organizing of the ASUBEB 2024 Sports Competition will qualify Anambra State team to participate in the forthcoming national competition coming up on 6th November,2024.
She explained that sports play a vital role in shaping all round graduates who develop not only the intellectual aspect but also the emotional, social and physical aspects of development.
In attendance were Director Academic Service, ASUBEB, Mrs Christiana Chukwuma, Sports Desk Officer, Mrs Anthonia Okoye, ASUBEB Board Member One, Lady Ify Anatune, Director Quality Assurance, ASUBEB, Lady Stella Ezepue among others.
Recall that a couple of weeks ago, ASUBEB distributed sports equipment and materials to schools in Anambra State and this week these equipment were put to immediate use.
