Anambra state Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu has released twenty inmates of Onitsha Correctional Center.
The jail delivery exercise which was part of his constitutional duties in decongestion of the four custodian centers across the state targets to review cases and issues of those over detained without prosecutor as well as the old and sick inmates.
Accompanied by other judges, key officers in the judiciary, members of the Ministry of Justice, as well as the litigants, the Chief Judge disclosed that those released were inmates, who have been convicted and served of the offences of which the person was detained.
The Chief Judge prayed the Federal Government to ensure that correctional centers are more comfortable to rehabilitate inmates to contribute positively in making the society a better place to live in.
Deputy Controller of Onitsha Correctional Center, Mr Sunday Igwe, noted that the chief Judge visits will enhance speedy dispensation of justice, especially as it concerns awaiting trial inmates and assist in decongesting the facility.
