The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it will begin activities leading to the Anambra governorship election scheduled for 8th November, 2025 with the official notice of election on the 13th of November 2024.
The Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who disclosed this during his last quarterly consultative meeting with the media in Abuja, said as required by law, the Commission is under obligation to publish the timetable not later than 360 days before the date fixed for the election.
According to the INEC boss, the essence of giving the ample time, is to enable those involved in elections as political parties, candidates, observers, the media and security agencies to prepare for a credible election.
Professor Mahmood, also reeled out some preparations made by the Commission to ensure a free, fair and credible election in Ondo State on Saturday 16th November 2024
In his response, the President of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Chris Isiguzo, spoke on the security threats and physical dangers journalists encounter during elections or investigative reports.
He commended the INEC for maintaining open lines of communication which he says fosters an environment of process that is essential for credible elections and responsible journalism
The Consultative meeting with the media, touched on several aspects of the process of election as it affects media practitioners to enable them do their work favourably.
